Kunsthalle Mannheim

Mit etwa 380 Werken war die Hälfte der Mannheimer Skulpturensammlung in ungewöhnlichen und spannungsreichen Wahrnehmungskontexten zu erleben. Unter der kuratorischen Leitung von Bogomir Ecker (Professor für Interdisziplinäre Kunst an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig) und seinen fünf internationalen Bildhauerkollegen John Bock, Thomas Hirschhorn, Thomas Rentmeister, Roman Signer und Kiki Smith wurde der Skulpturenbestand der Kunsthalle Mannheim aus zeitgenössischer Perspektive interpretiert und inszeniert.

Der letzten Ausstellung, in dem zur Demontage gewidmeten Mitzlaffbau, konnte in der künstlerischen Arbeit und der Ausstellungsgestaltung großer Raum und Einfluss gegeben werden.

Die Ausstellungsgestaltung gibt den einzelnen Werken einen Rahmen und den BesucherInnen eine Orientierung zwischen künstlerischer Intervention oder kuratorischer Setzung zu unterscheiden. Dabei zentral war die enge Zusammenarbeit und Auseinandersetzung mit dem Künstlerkurator Bogomir Ecker und seinen Künstler-Kollegen. Durch gezielte Interventionen, wie Durchbrüche oder Rückbau verborgener Qualitäten, wurde die Architektur wieder aktiviert.

380 objects of the sculpture collection of Kunsthalle Mannheim are featured in the entire museum. The exhibits are shown in a new perceptual context.
The exhibition formulates new insights into how sculptural art is presented, perceived and conveyed. Under the curatorial direction of Bogomir Ecker (Professor of Interdisciplinary Art at the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig) and his five international sculptor colleagues John Bock, Thomas Hirschhorn, Thomas Rentmeister, Roman Signer, and Kiki Smith, the sculpture collection of the Kunsthalle Mannheim was interpreted and staged from a contemporary perspective.

In the last exhibition, dedicated to the dismantled Mitzlaffbau, significant space and influence were given to artistic work and exhibition design.

The exhibition design provides a framework for individual works and allows visitors to distinguish between artistic intervention and curatorial placement. Central to this was the close collaboration and engagement with artist-curator Bogomir Ecker and his artist colleagues. Through targeted interventions, such as breakthroughs or the uncovering of hidden qualities, the architecture was reactivated.
